Finally awning is going up. We’re way behind in our outdoor projects.
One shock cord needs replacing ( it’s all stretched out)
.The front part gets screwed in and the back end just attaches
with the shock cord attaching to a permanent screw.

The reason we’re behind is he restained the deck and Pergola...
That had to come first before the awning could go up.

This is a good way he came up with to install an awning that has to be taken
down for the winter...It took him about 1 1/2 hours to install it.

I remember the framing.

I thought your husband did an excellent job and had a great idea.

If I may make a suggestion.?
It would only have to be installed once.
You could put it out or in with a remote.
It would install at the top and glide along the rafters.

Giving the two of you more time to enjoy it all.

I am with TwoKnots on this. No need for remote control electric extend/retract.

I have awning a little similar to TwoKnots. Its the Shade Tree Canopies system, which looks similar to the above photos, but its easy to roll them back towards the house or forward to cover the deck. I move them twice per year. Forward in May, and back in October. With my west facing deck, I need that covered in the summer, but like the sun and heat gain in the winter.

Looks good !

Ron, I don’t want a motorized one because I don’t want the entire 13 ft span
covered. We purposely made this one to cover about 9 ft. leaving about
4 ft close to the house exosed - in order to let light into the house.
The awning before this current one covered the entire pergola, and it cut
the light into the house.

The head knot said if he did a motorized one, he would do a folding shade type (motorized)
one. He has the know how to do this...Inside he made a motorized 10 foot
solar-vail shade for the window in our den...we use it to cut it the light for
day time tv watching. It’s not remote controlled though, there is a switch
next to the couch. He’s also made several motorized shades for skylights for
friends and family.

The reason I showed this awning is it’s a clever (and inexpensive) way
to make a DIY awning.
The shock cord on the one end keeps it taunt. This can also be done with canvas,
however, canvas holds in the heat...
this fabric cuts out the sun, let’s in the light and air...He puts it up in
May and takes it down in November.
