Allow the bar to extend past the wood slightly, snap or draw a line centered on the bar. Drill pilot holes through the wood and into the metal. Remove the metal from the slot, drill and tap holes in it to accept short bevel head sheet metal screws. Drill indentations in your wood with a bevel bit, and attach the wood to the metal using thread sealant. The heads will be flush to the wood and will hold tight.
