Greeting all, 1st post here.
I’ve been searching for a way to attach a pergola ledger to a soffit without having to remove the gutter. I am also trying to avoid adding post. I have seen a nice wood look on Pinterest but it was a old post and it looks like the OP has stopped responding to inquiries about it. It seemed to be a secret on how to do it. I have found a way from JLC which suggest using Simpson ABU66 brackets. That;s possible but I was looking for other, options. Just want to do it once without worry of failing.
Suggestions?
Thanks

Those buckets would be for standing posts on concrete, nothing to do with the soffet or rafter tails.

How high is the bottom of your gutters? How high would you like to have the bottom if your pergola?

You need to check with your building department regarding permits.

I looked at Boise. They will let you build a free standing 200 sq ft pergola (or smaller) without a permit. However, any Pergola (Including those under 200 sq ft) attached to the building requires a permit.

Assuming your rules are similar, it might change your idea of attaching to the soffits.

I know the ABU’s are post brackets. I have a drawing of the idea that was post in Journal of Light Construction. Just can’t figure out how to post the photo. Anyway, I believe it’s a sound idea and will work but I am looking for other suggestions that could look better. If I learn how to post photo’s on here I’d be happy to share. I want my ledger on the exact level as my gutters. The cover area is 128sq ft and yes I do know it will trigger a permit and I’m ok with that. Just looking for suggestions how to make it happen. Thanks.

OK, I have not seen that idea before, All you can do is draw the plans up and see if it fly's. There is a heavier bracket like that made for timber if they deem it not strong enough
I found a picture but not a supplier.
