I am going to install a 16X30 composite deck on the rear of my house in Ontario, Canada. I was advised it is no longer permitted to attach the deck directly to the house.
Far better to just make it free standing no matter what code allows, that way there's 0 chance of damage to the home.
Spend any time on any DIY site and you'll see hundreds of post about water getting in the door, issues with rotted siding, sheathing, rim joist, foundation plates, all caused from the deck being attached to the home and not build low enough.
In your area it's also likely code would be that it also needs to be at least 6" below any door openings.
There is a gap between the brick and the house so you can not get it tight with out taking chances of damage to the brick work. Simpson's does have a new system but whether it is accepted would be another problem.
Correct. Make the deck freestanding. Your only attachment through the brick and into the rim and/or joists will be for your lateral load devices, assuming your code requires them.
