Anyone use Armstrong's? Any problems? Is it better than the Allure Ultra?

IMHO, and what do I know, I've only been in the flooring business since 1973, all vinyl planks should be considered as temporary floor covering.

Hi Rusty,

Since you've been in flooring for a few decades, I'd like to know, how long have these vinyl planks been around? How much of a track record do we have on these products anyway? Thought they were very new?

The planks have been around long enough to show that they have many failures. I don't answer e-mails from here anymore because if anyone has a question, let them ask it here. That's why this forum is here. That's why I offer help. Then they also can get several viewpoints.

Rusty how temporary? If I'm looking for something to give me that wood look for about 5 years till my kids are a bit older and not as destructive before I drop a fortune on real wood do you think this would be a good option? I like that I can put it in myself and it seems to look pretty good.

I was recently comparing this flooring to the Home Depot Allure. We are buying a townhouse currently carpeted, with pets and allergies we want hard floors throughout but for the next couple years our budget is limited. I'd like to tear out carpet and put in something like this - a floating floor that is DIY install - that will be fine for 4-5 years.

Since it is floating it would be easier to replace with something better in the future is we wanted to. I was amazed by how good the products look for the price, but I did get some samples of the Lowes Armstrong product and the HD Allure and found they do scuff easily (fingernail).

I would really love to know if anyone can post pictures of the 2+ year old HD Allure or Lowes Armstrong Luxe floor, and provide feedback on durability - not in a basement since clearly from what I read on the 51 page Allure thread there are known problems with installation on cold damp cement floors.
