I just bought a house and need a fridge since the owner took his. It has high-end appliances so I was looking at Sub-Zero. Are they worth the extra money?
I know they have a 2-year warranty and duel compressors. What do you guys think?

Only if it's a built-in application. then i would only go with SZ. if you just have a 'space' for the refrig, wheel in-wheel out, why spend the money. they break just like all the others, but big bucks to fix, and if the servicer doesn't specialize on SZ you're in for headaches.

They require relatively intensive regular maintenance by the HOer. Cleaning drain lines etc. I had to throw away a 10 year old one because the former homeowner wasn't big on cleaning.

You know you're in trouble when the SubZero repair tech puts down his clipboard and says, "Ma'am. It is a waste of my time and your money to try and fix this. Save the $1400+ it will cost to maybe fix it and buy a new fridge.

That's my experience with SZ. take it or leave it.

Simple answer.... "No".

It's like a Wolf Hood Vent, or a Hummer in your driveway.

They were made with basically one primary objective in mind... to make the statement to those who see them that you can afford this.

It doesn't really matter what you buy. For the price of a SZ , north of $7k, you can buy three good fridges. Just throw them away when they break. I am on my second SZ. The first one was horrible, never got really cold and gulped elec. I only bought the second one because it was the only thing that would fit in the space w/o redoing the whole kitchen. I have had several service calls on the second one, fortunately while under warranty.

Feel you. Mine was built-in too. I lived with a super cheap fridge that didn't fit for a while until I could tear down the surround.

Super Cheap fridge moved out into the garage.

I'm really happy with my Samsung French Door.... scratch and dent from Lowes with practically invisible dent that equalled $700 off
