Apartment garage breaker upgrade

1350 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Paragon
I'm curious if anyone knows what code is for Apartment garages. We're considering upgrading the breaker for our workshops which are out of a few of the garage bays located on the property.
I'm located in Colorado. We have an air compressor that keeps tripping the breaker. I'm assuming its a 15A. We were considering going to a 20A. Wanted some professional opinions.
Thanks

I don't understand the question. I would call the local building department

The Amp rating of a CB is on the handle. It should say '15' or '20'
.

I am not a professional, this is a DIY forum and a lot of professionals are on it.

In general since a 20A breaker is rated to carry a larger current than a 15A breaker then larger wire is also required. 14AWG for 15 Amps and 12AWG for 20 Amps. Call the local Building Dept for the requirements for how to get this done.
Welcome to the forum and Good Luck
