Check out the tub and the "bulge" on the apron. Apron doesn't look to be structural and I think I can cut it out fairly easily. Bulge is ugly. I am thinking of creating some kind of PVC board to lay tile on. Or maybe access doors.

Guessing the apron has this bulge for running the whirlpool piping. Problem is it's not a whirlpool pool tub.

Anyone have success cutting a tub apron off?

Pure speculation here.

The bulge probably adds strength and visual interest to the thin panel. It may also be for piping as you mentioned

If the panel went in after the finished floor cutting the caulk along the top should be enough to allow it to be removed. My builder told me that that mine on the cultured marble was removable; not easy he said but possible if necessary.
