The EasyCoper video makes it look easy:

Do you have a miter saw and a jigsaw?

Maple Crown is expensive to practice on. There is a lot more to it than just cutting the copes. First come the corners:

Gary Katz the best known US finish carpenter has videos:

Here is a JLC pro using another tool- The Colins Coping foot

Sorry if this is all basic, you may know a lot more than I do but your using a grinder note made me think you are somewhere in the middle.

Thanks for the links Bob.

That Collins foot looks like it needs a lot of practice. Speaking of practice, Im going to try the Easy Coper on some cheaper crown before I attempt the Maple. I havent done a lot of crown molding so far. Maybe a few hundred linear feet total but it looks like Im going to be doing a lot more soon so like anyone else, I want to get better and faster.

Heres something I bought recently that really helps. On any outside corner or picture frame type molding these clamps are great. A little glue and a few hours to set up and done.

Weeks, Thanks for the Post, You certainly know what you're doing. Those spring miter clamps are also available from Jim Collins:

You already have the spring miter clamps. Here is another source for the curious. http://www.garrettwade.com/special-spring-mitre-clamps/p/05D02ddd04/

Weeks you are right about

I have the Collins coping foot on an older model Bosch but now that I've seen that Easy Cope video I think I'll buy one.

For anyone not familiar with the Woodworking Show here is the schedule:
http://woodworkingshows.com/
One of the show's presenters is Jim Heavey, don't miss his free woodworking class.

The schedule only goes up to the May 2009 Los Angeles Show so I hope this doesn't mean no more shows.

JLC Live has canceled the remaining 2009 Shows. What a bummer

just finished another crown job and we've been using the easy coper and it really does help speed up the job. Keep a file near by and sand paper. If you have a lot of inside corners to do I would recommend this tool or make your own jig. It looks easy enough to copy but at $25.00 for the pair, I thought it was worth it.
