A few years back we came across a wall that had lights built into the wall creating a nice look. Ever since I have wanted to do something similar. Was wondering if there are any readymade boxes like these or would have to be created using 1x2 and 1/4" plywood?

It's an interior wall with lights built into it.
It is likely a 2x6 wall to make room for the light box

the niche is usually short 2x4s with a full 1/4" plywood back and cut out plywood face. All made to fit in 5 1/2"

I looked at them but most are the bathroom niches and bigger in size. Typically for a LED candle I don't need them to be more than 8-9" height with atmost a couple of inches depth. Since the candles themselves will be battery operated (rechargeable) and not much heavy I was looking to combine my idea with what @Nealtw suggests but use less heavier material. Might use a L-bracket to fix the niche to the drywall.
