Blocking between studs. I’ve never done anything like this before. I bought a 30” Moen flip-up handrail. It needs a very solid mount in the wall to attach it to.

If I locate two studs and open the wall up between them, do I just install a block between the studs? Then when I screw the grab bar on, I’m thinking that one side would be best to screw into the stud itself and the other could go into the block of wood?

Thanks. I wish I could find a good how to video.

That is a lot of leverage, does it no come with instruction. I would guess it would need a lot more in the wall.

It has very basic step instructions and says it requires wood backing / studs. Came with hex wood screws.
I think grab bars are rated for 250 pounds. That would be 750 ft pounds of torque pulling at the top screws or the nails holding the top of the stud.

Have you seen the bracket they install in the wall for a wall hung toilet?

If you can, open up the wall on the opposite side of where you want to mount it. Then place a couple 2x12s between 2 of the studs, fastened with nails or construction screws. Typically that's all that is needed for any grab bar.

I know little on this stuff. But I’m seeing that it’s more likely I’ll have to have a pro get it installed properly. It has to be solid for all the torque it needs to handle, even though it’s only for mom. Who knows who else could use it too eventually.
