by no means am I handy haha I can just do basic stuff. Anyways I removed the ceiling air condition vent so I can paint the ceiling. It seems the sheetrock where the original screws were kind of pulled through to the actual hole.

Upon placing the new bought vent in the store I noticed this. The screws cannot be screwed in. My question is what is the best way to make the holes solid again so I can re-screw. Spackle is not strong enough so I am not sure what to use to fix this. For the time being I used some vinyl adhesive and letting it dry now, but I have a feeling that wont do anything. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

It depends on how big the hole for the screw is. If very big, they won't work. Just glue a small block of scrap ply behind each screw hole and fill the wall board with some patch material. Don't slop past the grill outline, let dry, install grill with longer screws. Be safe, G
