Another ice dam...

sorry to hijack but i have a question about this very topic. i have ice building up in the gutters because they are a diy horror mess. if i do in fact get ice dams this winter; would it cause permanent and significant damage? i plan on installing new gutters in the spring.

It's possible to get water running into your walls,i've seen it happen,get some of those electric heating cables in the gutters,and downspouts.
