Find a company that will raise your house off the slab....remove animal...have company lower house.

If it's a slab home then there is no wood under it.

The wood is above the slab,,framework, sub-floor. This sounds like a good size critter and I'm worried he will chew up through the floor and join us in the house,,maybe while we are sleeping.

I was actually hoping for some replies from professionals that would help me out here...my wife is really bugging me about this and I'm not sure how to solve the problem.

1. Find out where animal is entering,

2.When animal leaves to scavenge for food, a mate or to play, secure entering area.

One trick to finding the entry is to sprinkle some flour around the suspected possible entry points. You will see footprints. If your floor sits on a slab and you hear an animal below, there has to be an entry.

Do you have a deck or porch that could hide the entry? If not, and the siding is tight against the foundation, then the animal may be entering from above. The garage is another possibility. Garages are very easy for small rodents to freely enter, and if it is connected to the house, it could have hidden little entries into the main structure.

Do you hear the critter only at certain times? When? Everyday? Does it stop or move when you whack the floor near the sound? What is near the sound inside your living space? (plumbing, electric, heating vent....)

If you do find tracks, that is a good clue about what animal it is. That would influence the size of a trap, and the bait used to capture it.
Depending on your neighborhood rules, local laws, even federal laws, you may have only certain choices. For example, in Fort Collins CO I cannot relocate a skunk, nor exterminate it on the spot. Woodpeckers are protected by federal law and international treaty. It is important to know what critter is cohabitating with you.

Forget the bombs or electronic devices. CO does not allow sales of the electronic things in local stores, because they test them and none work as advertised.

Now theres a good tip.

Your other concern.....if it's a female, there could be babies in there.

Depending on where you live (this is why having your location in your profile helps)....flower may or may not work..rain will turn it into mush....but it's still a good idea....

Traping is one option....HF sells safe traps (animal is not harmed). Works best if you can find the entry point....then put the trap in front of it.

You also need to know what kind of creature it is....if the weather goes along...the flour trick might help.

This guy can tell the difference from a ground hog, raccoon, skunk, cat, rat, etc, from a track in the flour?:huh:
