Helping a friend from a distance... They have a gas-fired Amer Std., model # ADC1B060A9361AD. It's installed in a closet in downflow configuration, feeding under-slab ductwork. The homeowner says she's hearing a noise when the blower is running, and another friend who has taken a look says it is coming from the blower motor, maybe a bearing.

The installer is not responding, and with the recent snow, finding an available tech is proving very difficult. The question is on how to access the blower motor for replacement, considering that the left, right and rear of the unit are virtually inaccessible because of the location.

Have to disconnect the wires from the control board, sometimes nee to remove the drain trap. Remove the screws that hold the blower housing to the plate. And pull the whole blower housing out.

Great info and should be a big help - thank you.

Is there any way you can tell if the blower motor is single speed or other?
The HVAC techies can tell by the number of wires I believe so I''ll not go there but I know mine is 2 speed because when in the heat mode and I punch the fan button on the thermostat I can hear the blower increase in speed. Don't know about any more than that except mine is ancient.

Just wanted to update with the resolution. The homeowner was able to get a tech out before I could get there. Some object of debris was found in the area of the blower, causing the noise. Situation resolved. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Thanks for the follow up and certainly glad the fix was simple.

It seems to me if the unit filter is in effect, the debris would almost have to come from the return air ducting or area between the filter and blower. Humm.

Under slab duct work. Surprised because I thought my duct work with that configuration was the only one since the 1950s - 60s when I was a youngster working at that on a non professional level.

It's an original Levitt cape from the 50's. Some of his builds used copper tubing for radiant in the slab.
