Aluminum is used, because the manufacturer of the unit doesn't know if its going to be installed in a certified acid free area system. Or an area that the gas still contains acid vapor.

The Hydrogen sulfide acid, in natural gas eats copper but has little to no effect on aluminum.

That's why a lot of buried copper lines (In chases) were over sized by one size.

but Now i only run black pipe inside for appliance supply lines. I terminate them with a stainless flex connector.
