Hi all,

my wife and I installed a sliding glass door at the back of our house last weekend. We had to cut out a section of the back wall and aluminum siding out back. The door slid in like butter, but now it is time to put the aluminum siding back (resized of course) over the excess that we took out.

The siding was nailed into the old wood siding (ours is an OLD house), and had a cork like board over the old wood slants to act as buffer and make the surface even. We are a bit confused - what would be the best way to put the aluminum siding pieces back? What should we put over the wood slants to make the surface even - we threw away the buffer board bits, so can't actually restore the pieces of the same. And once we get the siding up, how to seal up the corner to make it water tight?

the wj=hole basis for what you are trying to do is get the siding back on
so figure out what the entire thickness of the siding equals to and pack out the missing area with enough material to equal the thickest part of the siding. maybe it's 1 1/2" or 3/4" whatever nail the stuff on and reapply all the siding
one more thing tivek house wrap, tarpaper whatever best of all i love to use iceand water shield and flash out the door prior to siding install
