Had a question and unsure how to do this without
the NEC states grounding to copper pipe has to be 5 ft or less ,i have bare AL ,and also that it must not be under 18 in of earth..
My copper line coming in at crawlspace is 4 inches above the ground for over 5 ft..
How can i properly ground the wire to pipe without violation..there is a branch off from the main there above 18 inches but its a smaller one coming off the incoming line going to laundry room.Could i ground it there even though its not main line?
any info is appreciated

It has to be connected within the first five feet of where it enters the building. Size of pipe doesn't matter. Aluminum can't be terminated within 18" of the ground.
that pipe its connected to is over 18 inches and under 5ft from entrance but is teed off of main.
Good to go.
You question is a little confusing.

Are you installing a Grounding Electrode Conductor (GEC) from your main panel to your main water line? And your GEC happens to be AL?

That is what I understand from your post. If that is not the case the answer below will not apply.

Your GEC to your Main water line must be connected to your Main water line within 5' of where your water line enters the building. You also need to bond around your water meter. Your AL wire needs to be at least 18" from Earth or Concrete.

You can attach to the smaller section after the "T" as long as you meet the requirements above.

I remember a job where they required it to be connected to the pipe before any fittings or valves were encountered. At least with the 5 foot rule, you have a bit more accessibility nowadays.

We can't use soldered joints in contact with the ground.
so as far as location AFTER the T(pipe) it is ok?..that water line goes to a washer

No problem. Make sure the clamp is listed for AL.
If this applies then i will be moving it closer to entrance and lower too(not right at soil though)being that it is INSIDE...as the 18" applies OUTSIDE in this NEC info Text Font Document Paper Paper product
