Hey all...first time poster here...I was an electrician in my past life but have never touched HVAC before. Just bought a home and I have some equipment that's acting up.

I have a Rheem Classic Series Super Quiet 80 and an air conditioner outside, don't know the model top of my head and I'm at work right now...but there are two wires that go from the FAU to the condensor...anybody know what those are for...like where to land them? Is there a typical color scheme or?

I have Y,G,W,C,R hookup on the FAU.

Thanks in advance for the help!!:thumbsup:

what's a FAU? focred air unit?

we call that a furnace.

the AC wires go to Y and C on the furnace board. why are they disconnected now? may want to make sure there is no short to ground on them B4 hooking them up or U will blow a fuse on the FAU board. probably the previous owner disconnected them because there is a problem with the AC

Well...since this IS an internet forum and the hope is that others can learn from our mistakes...I will confess my sins, like a dumbass, I disconnected the other wires thinking they were "extra" or abandoned wires...and did not take notice of where they were hooked up previously. Soon thereafter I realized what I had done and wanted to seek some advice before randomly hooking them up again! Previously the AC did work.

Lesson I thought I had already learned long ago...take a photo of what you are working on before you take it apart or make a diagram.

Thanks for the help and the quick response...I hope my Nest still works with these new wires added...maybe it will self destruct.:whistling2:

Oh...does polarity matter...between the Y&C?
