I am trying to source materials for a building slab. 6000sf. The typical product we would use is AB3 which is a limestone product, but the price right now is insane! I am curious if anyone has tried crushed asphalt with a reasonable thickness? I am currently using that for a driveway with really good success! However, it took some time to solidify and firm up, even though we ran a vibratory compaction roller over it.

****! I forgot to even mention, this is for the BASE! NOT the actual concrete. Right now, I have sources 1.25-1.5" limestone, and limestone filings. I know limestone can make one hell of a base so I am considering a layer of the courser aggregate, then filings over that with compaction and hydration.

I am in the midwest and is likely that limestone will be the only affordable option. We have crushed concrete, recycled, asphalt, gray (mystery) rock, and shales as well.

Right now looking at limestone screenings at $3.70/T which is by FAR the cheapest solution, but has to be trucked quite a distance.
