I would bring in someone knowledgable to look at the situation. Adjusting a support post is not the answer. These poles don't generally loosen up, dropping the structure with it.
Has the footing given way?
Has work been done on the house that could have shifted the load?
Has someone removed a support pole nearby for some reason?
It would help if you could post some pictures of the support poles in the basement.

I have a similar issue with my 4 level split and I was wondering what the problem was.
Ernie couldn't make it back it seems. It doesn't really matter because his problem is not the same as yours.
Post some photos of your issue and we'll give it a shot.
