I want to add a sink/toilet/shower at this location in the basement... there is a main coming from upstairs and directly under the toilet was this cap so I pulled it off and it was a drain pipe under it. can I add a toilet there? how could I instal a shower and where could I drain a sink? I can get water from the sink upstairs... Looking for some advice-be nice I'm a beginner! thanks!!

The hole in the floor is a cleanout. You can't add any plumbing (around here) till you're 1.5 meters from the base of the stack. That means jackhammering and/or building a subfloor to accomodate your horizontal drainage pipes for a bathroom or whatever. You will also have to find a way to vent your new stuff. But I find, anything is do-able!

at the black cast iron pipe coming from the ground in the 1st photo on the opposite side of the photo there is a cleanout about 1' off the floor with the square looking bolt...why would I have 2 cleanouts so close to one another?

Is that hole trapped? As in, is it really a floor drain? The stacks both have cleanouts, might also be a seperate one for the horizontal building drain. Or even an abandoned stack.

You are hoping to avoid jack hammering the floor?:whistling2:

Sorry---the only way to get the toilet plumbing to function properly will require opening the floor and adding a vent and the proper opening for the toilet---sink and shower/tub----
