Hey new guy here,
I have home built around 1900. Pine board ceiling, want to hang some drywall. Not sure what is for blocking now, but the pine boards are loud AF and I gotta quite it down. Old rough cut 2x4, what should I use? Be ready for if things go south? And what manner should I lay the blocking out? Staggered? Straight line every ___ feet?

Blocking? usually goes between structural members? Are you talking about strapping? Are the pine boards, the floor above?

No, sorry about vagueness of the OP. I am going to tear the pineboards down and add blocking in the overhead. So once I tear the boards down I will be looking up at the second story floor joists. Any particular way I should go about adding the blocking? After the blocking I’ll add the strapping and hang the sheetrock. Thanks
