My daughters room is the only room in the house that only has 1 switch on the wall for her light/ceiling fan. I have been doing some research and discovered the switches that would replace the existing light switch and allow full control of the fan and light without having to wire up a new switch for just the fan.

Are these a good option or should I have an electrician just run wires for a separate fan switch? I like the ones that are hard wired (one part goes up in the ceiling with fixture wiring and the other wires to the existing switch wires). If this is in fact a good option can someone recommend one? Something universal since I'm not sure what brand her fan is.

The only other option for independent control of lights and fan are remote controlled fans.
Outside of a remote, if you want to operate light and fan independently, you will need a three conductor cable to the fan location from the wall switch

It's all hooked up and I love it. Kinda want one for all the fan/lights in the house now. Lol. The one old switch had a total of 6 wires going to it making me wonder if it may have been wired for 2 switches to begin with. Only 2 wires come out at the ceiling though.....
