Adding lights to existing 3 way Dimmable switch

682 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  craig555
I have five in ceiling can lights on a three-way dimmable switch, so dimmable switch on one wall and a standard on/off is on the other wall. I had two cans that were over the sink on a dedicated switch, after kitchen remodel wanted to add those two cans to the other five on the dimmable switch. I ran the line from those two cans to the dimmable switch and attached it. After turning the power back on, with the dimmable switch at full power, the original lights were on bright but the two added were extremely dim, dimming the switch brought the two new lights up to full power and dimmed the other five.
I have moved the wires to all different locations on the switch, with no positive affect. Can anybody advise what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you for your help.

The 2 added lights need to be wired from the existing lights not the switch. There is a chance you could wire them from the non dimmable switch but from the lights is a sure thing.
Depending on how the circuit is wired you may need to go to the other switch for your connection.
You can for sure go to any of the existing lights and it will work.

Thank you. That worked!
