Hi. I'm renovating some existing stairs: removed old carpet and wood paneling, adding drywall and carpet. I'd like to add a bullnose to each step before the carpet goes in. The existing tread on the stair is solid, 1.5" or 2" thick, not plywood. I know the added bullnose will have to take a lot of pressure so I'd love any advice.
My plan is to add a 3/4'" x 3/4" strip to the edge of each tread with a screw every few inches and construction adhesive. Does this seem like enough to hold it in place? Also, what type of wood should I use? Something hard like oak or just whatever standard product is available, probably cedar where I live. Vancouver.
Thanks very much,
c.
