Is this the correct way to add a fan controlled by a separate switch?
Basically pigtail off of the existing 3 wires to the light switch and add another switch, then run the wires off the new switch to the fan?
Or am i clueless? haha

You plan probably won't work. The existing switch looks like a switch loop, so there probably is no neutral in the switch box.
In that case you would need to come off of either the light junction box or the receptacle to feed the fan and new switch.
