Adding a whole house fan

Since my AC is not working, I was considering adding a whole house fan, but it seems everything is a larger capacity than I need? My house is a single story ranch, approx 1000 sq ft. I was considering this this fan, but even at only 24" it says it needs a 1,200 - 2,000 square foot attic, and requires 8 square feet of net free air attic exhaust vent area. Right now I only have attic vents at each gable end, so I'm assuming that wouldn't be enough? Maybe I could had a couple of roof vents also?

I liked this fan because it is made in the USA and seems to have favorable reviews. Is there anything else I might need to consider before purchasing? I really need to do something, as my house is sometime unbearable. Just last night after a nice cooling rain, the temp outside was low 70's and my house was still a hot sticky 84 deg

As the fan is belt drive you could always change the fan pulley to match the size you need.

I never thought of that  It does come with a 2 speed switch, but the pulley will help also
of course a fan will not fix the problem of overheated home. the only way to cool your home is to have working ac because you need to displace the btus. money spent on a fan is better spent saving to fix/replace your ac
