So we have our first baby on the way, and the wife was wondering if I could try to get a handheld shower head for our tub. I am pretty new to anything but the basics here.

What we currently have is what you see in the first picture. I'm assuming the hot and cold knobs are the standard screw off. As you can see in the second picture, there is what looks like a set screw holding on the main faucet. This was put together in 1996 for what that's worth.

What realistically are my options? I did some searching and couldn't find any roman faucets that had a combined main nozzle and a hand sprayer, nor do I even know how to know if they would be comptaible with the current mounting etc. It seems the hand sprayers are always something separately mounted and plumbed to the tub. Or do I just not know how to find what I'm looking for (roman faucet, panel mount, something else, specific mounting type)? I don't think modifying any of the plumbing underneath is realistic for me; even with that being a velcro'd-on service panel, there is no way I can reach back to the main faucet for anything.

worse case or maybe easy case, is to see if you can get an adapter that threads into the spout aerator and then hook up the hand held shower there, either with a diverter to go from spout to shower, wont be the bast thing to look at, but it will work..

Along with the hand held wand, you will need a diverter valve (to shift the flow from the spout to the wand.

Go to a local plumbing supply house ---Moen makes a simple, compact one that could be mounted to the deck.

well you have a few options, depends on your plumbing skills, you can remove the bath tub skirt and have access to the piping for the faucet and can put a diverter between the spout and hook up a deck mounted hand held shower..

My plumbing skills.... yeah they do not exist. I was hoping there might be some fancy option to just replace the faucet, that would have a detachable wand built into it. But looking at that Moen exploded view, I'm guessing not so much.
