I have a new 12/2 running back to the breaker panel on a 20A breaker. It is too short to reach the first ceiling fixture. Is it okay to put an accessible junction box in the ceiling? I will be installing 4 fluorescent fixtures with 4 T8 32W bulbs- total 16 bulbs and 3-4 outdoor wall sconces with LED bulbs totaling about 60W? and wall switches of course.

Why not but it in the attic so it will not be seen from below?

There is no attic. There are ceiling joists of about 7-8 inches then the roof. I will put a blank cover plate to cover the junction box.

Can you take the wire to the switch first?

Other then having to look at it, nothing wrong with the box.

Too short to make it to the switch. It's the garage so seeing it even after the ceiling is sheetrocked is not a problem. Thanks.
