Hey just a shot I the dark here. Bought a house a little over a year ago.

When the AC kicks on it makes a pretty horrible grunting sound. I know it isn't much to go on, but wanted to jump on here to see if anyone can help diagnose the issue before I have someone come out and tell me that I need a new unit and I really don't need one.

Without more info like how long does the noise last what other symptoms do you have and what you have already tried or are thinking about trying it's really hard to help. Give us some more info and we can prob point you in the right direction hopefully.

Sounds like normal starting of a builders grade unit. The video will help.

PS. I've successfully used 2 different methods for we quieting them down.
1)compressor blanket
2)condenser fan speed control
Both are cheap
