Hello all,
I have this little Bodine ac gear motor that runs at 1 rpm and would like to know if I could slow it down just a bit say 1/2 rpm? Could I use a dimmer switch that controls lights? I see so much on ebay that as usual, I'm confused as to what I need for my particular motor. Any help would be appreciated.
The pics show the info of the motor. Thank you all, Gene

Bodine has their FAQ's here: http://www.bodine-electric.com/TechTools/?Context=3

They also have a support page. Contact the factory for what specific device can be used on your motor.
Your motor (winding type YC) is designated as a fixed speed motor by Bodine and they say it is not suitable for variable speed use. Depending on your application, you might be able to make it work well enough using a speed control, but I wouldn't count on it.
This motor is single speed and the speed cannot be easily controlled.

If the load is constant, a fan speed control (not a light dimmer) might sorta work but it'd likely burn it up, and it'd need to be loaded to around half of its capacity or it won't slow down.

It's a costly option, but a variable frequency drive is the best tool for this job. You would risk overheating though.
Some sort of pulley or gear reduction,
would be a better option.
What are you wanting to use it for ?
this is a synchronous motor, cant slow it down, you need some pulley/ gear reduction
