I have a 2 year old American standard gas furnace and ac system with Honeywell air filter. Also has humidifier. Durable Meg the summer, the system makes a high pitch whine when ac is on. If I open air filter and pull the filter out a bit, it stops. This does not happen with furnace in winter.

Installer was out today and said it was because ac operates at higher fan speed than in winter.

Thoughts?

He's right about the fan speed. What kind of filter are you using?

That is true, If your ductwork is undersized or you don't have enough return air vents then it can be louder.

Using Honeywell 20 x 25 x4 . Merv 8. The original filter was 4.5 wide but they are hard to find. Original returns are undersized. I just don't remember this being an issue when we first installed it.

Make sure none of your supply vents got turned off or are blocked by furniture etc. Same with the returns. Not much we can do from here w/o hearing it or seeing it in person.:wink2:
