Our AC cap dies once in a while and needs to be replaced. The compressor and air handler or new.......

My wifes brother "works" with AC's and such and says that running it at 70 degress is too cold and works it too hard "thus" it blows cap....

Anyone have any insite?

Your BIL is full of crap.

Setting your sta to 70 has nothing to do with the cap blowing.
A.Cs are designed for long run times.

Not all capacitors afre created equally. Some are made very cheaply. And won't last long.
Could even be that your contactor is worn and causing the cap to die prematurely.

Amp draw of compressor should be checked.

wonder if he meant running it a 70 degrees outdoor temp. while 70 degrees is not perfect temp it shouldn't blow cap, i wouldn't think. might need hard start cap for low ambiant temps.
