Thanks in advance for your and input.End of summer system started having problems and couldnt cool house down, air flow problems, HVAC guys told told me they couldnt fix it, I needed a new system. So i shut the system down and the plan is to go all out when tax time gets here, and for the most part been comfortable, except those few extremely cold few days. I started the system using aux heat only for a few 1 hour periods to help with temps. Question I have,Should my outside unit have kicked on at all while doing this?Because it never did. And is there any problems with me doing this? Again thank you In advance. On an off topic, tax season is right around the corner. any suggestion's? or threads I should check out

If you switched the thermostat to emergency heat. then the outdoor unit should not have come on.

Air flow problem? Not able to fix it so you need a new system?

If its bad duct work, a new unit won't fix your air flow problem. If its a dirty coil or blower problem. Then that would be repairable.

That You Beenthere, I appreciate you imput. Thru mine and previous owner's home warranty both outside unit and inside unit have had alot of problems and alot of work done to them, most recently coil and handler in attic they replaced with a unit 1.5 ton smaller than outside unit, Tech from Ampmor came out when I started to have problems and told me my coil was the culprit, he cleaned it and wrote operating pressures and temps good, collected his 220 and went on his way. when I got home I knew it wasnt doing any better, waited a few days and called them back, second tech was there maybe 8-10 minutes and told me, and wrote on my copy, That the inside and outside units were not compatible, and were two different type's of coolants, and that they coudnt repair, replacement necesary., waived there fee and went on his way. I shut the system down and have been looking forward to tax time ever since. Dont even have a general idea what ballpark price wise a dependable system sized for my house would cost, but I get a pretty good size return and wont think twice if it takes every dime.

Well, yes, you have a new-ish Carrier R41a air handler/coil and an older Goodman R22 condenser unit. You can use a larger coil than condenser but not the other way around, which you appear to have. Also, mixing R410 equipment with R22 equipment may work if it's set up properly and they are using R22 and not R410a. You may have two unrelated problems with unrelated solutions: 1. Ductwork. Need to get a definitive explanation for why this might be the problem. 2. Split system - there's definitely a problem with it! If it worked for a while and then stopped, you may have a leak and the low charge cutoff switch kicked in. Or they may just not be able to get these two components to work together. Either way, get a new service company.

Edit: Depending on your location, you would be looking at $3000-$5000 to replace it completely with a basic system. The company who put in the undersized air handler should replace it with one which at least is size matched.

An air handler made for R410A, can be used with an R22 condenser. If the metering device is changed to an R22 metering device. however the air handler being smaller then the outdoor unit is a problem.

Hey Skt77 and Been there, thank you for your time. Many variables, with different hands in the pot, as far as duct work, back before I blew in more insulation I spent quite a bit of time air sealing up there, and redid the few leaj y ion n I came across, except 1 I could see over across a section of vaulted ceiling. Was barely attached, but couldnt get to it.
