Wth.... we closed on this home a week ago and just moved in. Last night I can hear my sister getting pounded through the walls.... that was wrong on so many levels ....anyways

It turns out my closet and her closet aren’t separated by a proper wall but by a piece of plywood in between and there is a gap on the ceiling that allowed the sound to pass unfiltered.

What can I do to create a proper barrier without having to fabricate an entire wall with studs and all? The closets are already tight spaced as they are

To fit your criteria, buy a sheet(s) of Homasote (1/2"x4x8) and cut it to fit tightly into the closet separation partition.

Additionally tell her to turn on the tv or music to mask some noise.

Any gap will allow significant sound to pass. Fill all gaps, then caulk the edges to get it airtight. They sell acoustic caulk for that purpose, but I'm not so sure it makes a big difference so long as its caulked air tight. Even nail holes in the board need to be caulked shut.

The sound deadening board is a good idea too.
