what is the easiest or best way to connect two 4x6 post together in height when building a deck that is twenty feet off ground and can only buy sixteen foot post is there a connector available that can be applied after a scarf joint is done to marry the two together

A shiplap joint with a bolted connection would be the only option I can think of, but I think it is a horribly bad idea to not use the correct length of lumber. I can also just about assure you that any inspector worth his salt will require some engineering when he encounters any kind of spliced structural member.

best way is to buy lumber that is long enough, have it delivered by a truck if you don't have a vehicle that will work.

you could also use duct tape and some drywall screws, i'm pretty sure that would last. Just don't stand under your deck

If you can only get 16' posts, why not just build the foundation up four feet? Of course, the raised foundation piers would need to be designed to withstand lateral movement but that could easily be done. If it were me, I would try my best to avoid a spliced post.

or go with 6x6, you are likely to find a 20' length
