Hello All....I'm having a new porch added on to our little cottage by the lake,and will be doing the trim work myself.Question to all is....Whats the proper way to cover a 4x4 post with cedar boards? Do I miter the corners or use a butt joint on the corners?or recess one side about 1/4"Thanks to all.Ray

Unless you have access to a good tablesaw,shop etc butt is just way easier, plus the wood is going to move alot and miters will show movement more than butt joints.

I just finished mine. I butted the cedar boards and mitered the trim at the top and bottom.
