I bought a construction heater that is 30 amp 240 volt. I bought a special receptacle for it and a 30 amp double pole breaker. I used #10-2 wire. I connected the black to one side of the breaker and the white to the other side. This didn't leave me a neutral wire. Now when I turn the breaker on it trips off right away. What have I done wrong??

240V doesn't have a neutral. Two hots only plus the ground.

The problem is likely at the heater end.

Do you mean I connected the plug wrong? The breaker trips without the heater being plugged in.

Agree. it sounds like you wired the breaker side correctly.

What did you do with the white wire at the heater receptacle? The receptacle should not have had a place for a neutral.

Somewhere, somehow you shorted the wires.
Maybe when you stripped them.
Disconnect the wires at the breaker and see if the breaker holds.
