The 3-way at the bottom of the stairs will turn the light ON & OFF (slight delay when turned on however), but after turned ON, toggling the 3-way at top of stairs only makes the light blink OFF momentarily... stays ON.

New switch at top of stairway didn't change anything. Didn't pull cover off the switch at the bottom of stairs yet. Going back next week.

No history on this home.

Thx much for any help!

You need to describe all the wiring at both switches, omit grounds, and then we might be able to tell the problem.
Wiring at the fixture might be needed as well but the switches for sure.

I'd have to go back and look at it again, and do the same with the switch at the bottom of the stairs, Should've done that before I left the job, but had already spent some time there looking for an open neutral in this older 2-story home, and wanted to leave. So, just installed a new 3-way to see if that would help (it didn't), and scheduled a return visit for next week.

All I can tell you at this point, is that the wires for this 3-way circuit weren't the Romex type stuff I'm used to seeing. Was older cable (pic below, not actual -- pic from Internet).

I'll go back, identify the wires (hot, or not, etc.); their postions, and get back, unless I can find some instruction on the Net, with diagrams, etc. Did that a long time ago, and possibly still have some printed info from the Net on 3-ways. Been a while since then.

Long-time mobile home customer giving me plenty of time to learn how to fix this 3-way problem in his first home purchase. Found the open neutral and fixed it, so he was happy about that.
