Hi All,

I have a 3 way switch controlling two half receptacles beside the two side of the master bed. Upper plugs of the two bed side outlets were switch control for floor lamp/bedside table. Now i want to use the TP Link smart 3 way switch HS210 to control them. After following instructions to wire the new switch (even after setup wifi connection), when I use newly installed smart switch, the light just turn on for half a second and turn off. I can also see the switch lost wifi connection and trying to reconnect.

Could you what went wrong and how I can fix that?

1st the picture show the the switch before. Note that the black wire coming from the top of the box (with red and white traveler) is actually joined together at right bottom corner to the white wire (neutral?) going down stream. This is the wire marked with yellow diamond. The black wire that doing down stream out of the box were actually connected to the switch at hot position (black screw). this is shown with the red triangle wire.

2nd picture is how i wire it.

Thanks,
Andy

The white from the bottom is not a neutral. It is being used as a hot wire.
I believe you have a switch loop and white wire is feeding power to the other three way switch.
I believe this is the setup you have. The black and white wire connections are swapped in the first switch box but it works just the same.

They make smart switches that do not require a neutral.
Since your last reply, I've tried to find options to make my 3 ways switch smart. (voice control, app control). Seem like there's some Z-wave product that would do that, but I don't have a hub for Z-wave products.

Another option I came across is to use one of the traveler wire for neutral. I didn't get any instruction of how to do that other than suggested by someone in a forum. Does anyone here have a diagram I can follow to make this work?

Thanks,
Andy
