So....I had a leak coming from my 2nd story right below my toilet. Pulled drywall out. Obvious it was coming from toilet. Pulled toilet.

Pic shows what I found. The toilet was secured with screws going down through what looks like thinset, then the floor.

I'm looking at this and thinking the only way to do this so it is solid is to pull up the tile nearby. Thoughts, ideas? Somebody tell me there is an ingenious solution to fix this that will work great.....

The flange should be a bit higher than the tile. I would use a small grinder and cut the tile back to expose the flange, just stay within the toilet foot print.

Like others said. Really cant tell exactly what is there.

So based on a guess. Since you already have the ceiling open below. Should be easy to cut all that out.
Extend 4" PVC thru floor. Level floor around the PVC pipe.
Then flush cut the pipe to floor. Then install a flange on top of floor where it should be.

Okay folks,

Got around to clearing out the area surrounding this.
Attached are pics....
The old flange was corroded to about nothing.
Linoleum/vinyl flooring underneath.
Wood below is rotted, but not a huge area.

On one side of the flooring was heavy layer of mortar underneath tile. On the other side, there was some kind of material sandwhiched between the original floor and the tile. It looks like drywall. One of the pictures shows this.

What is this? (And yes I realize we're still in the plumbing section, but I figure you folks would have a good idea what this is and if it's normal).

But...the original point. Where to go from here? I was hoping to avoid pulling the other tiles up, but with the floor, I'm thinking that is probably necessary.

Thoughts?

I would cut the pipe and start over with the elbow and flange after the floor is fixed.

Floor, from above with a jig saw cut the plywood back to the edge of the tile removing as much rot as you can. Any rot that is left should be painted with a copper treatment to kill the rot.

Glue and screw a square of plywood from below and back that up with a 2x2 screwed to the truss on both sides below the -plywood.

From above fill it in with layers of plywood to level with or close to level with the tile.
The new flange should be above the level of the tile.

Cut the hole and redo the plumbing.
