I own an older home and am interested in installing a dishwasher. The home is about 100 years old and the kitchen was last remodeled back in the early 1980's. I want to pull out a cabinet and replace it with a dishwasher.

The cabinet is 30" wide and it appears that most standard dishwashers are 24". How do most people handle the gap? Are there standard spacers to install next to the dishwasher or do most people just fabricate them?

I have done 3 remodels in the past couple of years with this same problem. In all 3, I fabricated a narrow cabinet to fill the space. It's a graet place to store cookie sheets and wire racks etc.
