I just bought 20A switches for my bedrooms since they are all wired with 12/3 wire on a 20A circuit. I was told I could use 15A switches as well as long as it is not carrying the full load. There are 3 ceiling fans and 3 hi-hats on this circuit as well as 2 receptacles. Should I just return the switches are am I good as is? There are only 5 switches so it was not that much more...

For those loads you do not need the 20 amp switches, but can use them.

So no need to wrry either way even with the 12/3?

You may use a 15 amp switch on a 20 amp circuit although you need 12 gauge wire beyond the switch.
