2007 Yaris replacement voltage regulator and wiring harness don't fit.

Hi,

I'm trying to replace the voltage regulator (in the alternator) and the wiring harness, but when I ordered replacements, they aren't the same size as the originals and are a tight fit, so instead of clicking into place, they just stick to each other and have to be pried apart with a flathead screwdriver. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I'm considering returning the parts and having my mechanic do it instead, but that means he'll replace the entire alternator.

In my experience very few places will make a return on electrical parts especially if they have been installed. But can't hurt to try. Maybe there was a design change mid-year and they sold you the wrong one.

After 12 or so years, your old alternator doesn't owe you anything.

Sometimes the best way to get the right part is taking your VIN to a dealership.

If the parts don't fit and they'll take them back then by all means return them.

I generally go with aftermarket parts from a reputable local supplier.

Nothing wrong with going the wrecker route. The wrecker I used to go to had a sign when you came in "Don't like used parts? You drove here on used parts." If you get lucky you might even find a shiny new alternator. Don't just take out the first one you find
