So I'm re-building the previous homeowner's basement shower. I spent yesterday and most of last night tearing out tile, drywall and moldy framing and roto-hammering out the old, poorly sloped mortar bed so I can do the whole thing correctly.

Here's the existing drain (and my need for a solution!).

It sits 5/8" to 3/4" above the concrete and is cast metal of some sort, just over 4" OD and just over 2" (seriously 2 3/64") ID. The larger diameter ring appears to be cast iron pipe about 6" dia.
I want to lay tile again and have done my homework on building a custom shower pan, but I cannot find a 2 piece drain small enough to fit inside this thing.
I'm hoping there's a quick fix similar to what was available for my toilet - a new PVC flange with a rubber seal that fit inside the existing pipe. I've been to the home stores and a plumbing/heating specialty store and I've gotten a lot of shrugged shoulders, and one "jackhammer's the only solution".
I'd like to avoid that (my teeth can't take any more chattering), but if that's the only right way to do it, I'm prepared.
Thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Oh yeah: The house was built in the early 80's by a major builder, so I wouldn't think this should be anything too unusual.


(addendum: Yes, the pink and grey tile is going away! Can't wait.)

Answer to this question on another thread.
Apparently, the alternative solution (to taking out the freakin' slab)
is called an Instant Set drain and it's made by Frank Pattern & Manufacturing (209) 538-3251. Tony Frank is the name. Nice guy. Faxed me an illustration in minutes. :drink:
I tried to scan and post but I'm having some challenges in that realm as well. As soon as I have more details about the drain, I'll post them here; price, pics of installation etc.
