I have a stupid question, can you run two t-stats on one hvac system? I have a two story house and we are having a problem keeping the far upstairs bedroom warm when I start a fire down stairs. I put a little fan on the steps trying to blow some heat upstairs but it is not enough to get to the back bedroom. I was thinking installing a t-stat base upstairs so I could move the t-stat up there when I have a fire down stairs. This should work right? Only one would work a time and the other one would just have open wires.

I didn't want to spend the money for zoning. especially wwhen everything is perfect when I don't have a fire downstairs.

the two thermostat scenario would definitely be the cheapest way to go. the only problem I see is if I did have two thermostat at all times and not just two sub base is, if I accidentally had one in heat mode and one in cool mode, the reversing valve would get to signals. and I'm not even sure that's a problem because the reversing valve or (the orange wire) does not go to ground in heat mode I think it just opens, right?

Get a wireless t stat so u can put in wherever you want.

Get a Honeywell red-link thermostat and a personal comfort control. The PCC can sense remotely.

I would think adding a T-stat upstairs would ensure a call for heat when that area gets cooler.

The only downside I see is you are going to be heating the area with the fireplace at the same time. Could get fairly warm down there before you reach the desired temperature upstairs.

Have you tried running the fan continuously? It will help circulate the heat, not sure if it will do enough for you.:yes:
