I decided to buy a usb/electrical outlet. Not including the ground screws, the outlet I'm replacing has 4 wires (2 black, 2 white) each going to a single screw. The problem is the outlet I'm using to replace it with only has 2 screws and 1 ground screw. Further down the chain on the same circuit (I think) are some GFC(?) outlets - the ones with the red/black buttons. I don't want to put both black wires on the same screw and both white wires on the same screw if it will mess up the functionality of the GFC outlets.

Below is an outline of what I'm talking about. I'm wanting to replace outlet #1.

Bottom line, can I combine both black wires on one screw and both white wires on the other screw or will it possibly affect something? Thanks.

Does the receptacle have a metal plate under the screw? If it does then you can put both wires under the one screw. Cut the wire straight and push it under the plate on each side of the screw and tighten.

cut a piece of black wire. Strip and attach to the other two black wires with a wire nut (marette). Cut a piece of white wire off, strip and attach to the other two white wires with a wire nut. Use these two pigtails to attach to your new receptacle.

One wire goes in under each side of the screw then tighten down and the plate will grab them.
Exactly.

These new devices are starting to come through with these pressure plate clamps to accommodate two wires since so many people are doing this without the knowledge of how to.
