To anyone willing to help,
I am not sure of the cause but I believe there is an obstruction. The Kitchen and adjacent bathroom have very poor hot water flow; the cold water is better.
The bathroom on the 2nd floor seems to have normal hot and cold water flow.
Additional observations:
Basement water heater (oil direct fired SUPERSTOR)
Some reducing valves noticed going into the area where the problem kitchen and bathroom is supplied.
2nd floor seems good and basement faucet seems to have proper flow both cold and hot.
Water authority states we do not have hard water. Living in the area most of my life I can attest to this. We never have scale.
What I have done so far:
Checked pressure coming into house prior to any distribution. 68PSI when basement faucet is wide open without aerator in dropped to about 44PSI.
Removed aerators from 1st floor kitchen. Some "sediment" was found (see picture) but flow not improved. Sediment is a bit spongy.
flushed out hot water heater. Closed cold water supply to heater and drained and opened drain valve into bucket with the hot water open at the 1st floor faucet (with the low flow). Water was clean, very clean!
turned on cold water for more forceful flush with same result.
Examined "sediment" retrieved from faucet. Applied vinegar to it and observed no reaction so I do not believe it is calcium or typical scale.
Ideas for next steps:
Shut water to house, open first water spigot just after shutoff valve, Connect compressed air (MAX PSI ???) to hot water supply at problem faucet to hopefully dislodge obstruction. Should probably turn off water heater and shut both hot & cold in process.
I will contact the eater authority to see if work has been conducted in the area recently.
OK, that's my first post. If anyone has any ideas, questions or can set me a better direction I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you in advance,
Mictrik
