Image on left is nearest to breaker box and farthest from switch. The black wire labeled "HOT" is straight from breaker box. Image on right is closest to switch. Image on right has a clearer view of a single white wire that both boxes have, with the black wire cut off. What do I do with all these wires? I want to install ceiling lights that work off the one switch.

Many years ago there were light fixtures there but they were removed. The wires have been hanging from ceiling capped off ever since removal.

That box is a mess----I'm just bumping this for you--

have you opened up the switch box and tested it so you know which of the remaining two cables powers the switch?
